課程概述

Numerical methods, parameter estimation, and statistical analysis for mathematical models used in engineering. Theory will be illustrated with examples from various engineering disciplines. MATLAB will be taught and used in the class, and is required to be used for homeworks and exams. Instructor will supply template codes for inverse problems. 

課程目標
1. To numerically solve a single partial differential equations and systems of ordinary differential equations.
2. To understand and apply the difference between forward and inverse problems.
3. To give a conference-quality research presentation on estimation of parameters in a nonlinear mathematical model.
 
課程要求
Differential and integral calculus. Familiarity with matrices and ordinary and partial differential equations. Basic statistics.
Prior knowledge of MATLAB is not required. Previous knowledge of programming basics (e.g. for loops, if statements), will be helpful.
